Hq bird cage need help to put together!?

Hi all I have one of these

http://www.birdscomfort.com/parrot_aviary_cage.html

for the life of me I can’t get it even started to get it together it can with a stupid sheet with a photo of the cage and NO intructions. Please help

Hi did you try to contact the company ?? Or try typing in the brand name of the cage and put assembly insrtuctions with it and see if you cant get them that way… or return it to the store if you bought it locally and tell them the problem… good luck

Every year when the weather changes from warm to cold my husband put a vaporizer next to the birds cage?

My birds are bathed daily. My husband put a cool- warm air vaporizer next to one of the birds cages, when our climate weather goes from warmth to cool. Is it needed to have this device used, Advise

Probably not a bad idea. Relative humidity drops rapidly once the furnace kicks in, and the dry air can promote respiratory problems, both in birds and people. The extra humidity will make your life more comfortable, even if the bird could get along without it. I vote for the humidifier.

What kind of bird could I get for a small wooden cage?

My dad bought a wooden bird cage yesterday as decoration but I know he really wants to get a real bird in it so my mom and I are thinking of getting him one for his birthday that’s in two weeks. So I was wondering what kind of bird would be right for it. The cage is about 14×11 1/2 inches and we’re thinking of keeping it outside (my backyard has a large roof so the bird wouldn’t get wet or even get affected by the wind). Thanks for any help!

Hi Jessica,

Unfortunetely that cage is too small for any bird to happily live in. You could put a finch or canary in there (budgies, etc would chew the wood), but it will probably live a life of boredom and torture every day for the rest of its life.

Finches may be small, but they need plenty of horizontal room to fly. They are happiest in aviaries. Also, like most birds, they are VERY social (possibly even more so than humans) and keeping them by themselves is cruel. They need to be with a finch friend of the same species.

If you really must get a bird for the cage, at the very least you should let it out in a bird-safe room in the house once a day to fly around (for exercise and mind stimulation). You should also not house it alone (however, canaries seem to be an exeption, you may keep a canary alone because they are solitary animals, but there is quite a debate about this).
Remember that birds are messy too, and a wooden cage not designed for real birds may be more difficult to clean than a different cage. But it can be done.
As for diet, feed a base of seed or pellets (or both) with fruits and veges everyday (this is important, seed alone is unhealthy and the bird will eventually die from malnutrition).
The cage should have at least two perches on each end (never one perch) for the bird to fly back and forth (if it only needs to hop back and forth, that’s a sign the cage is too small).

I hope that helps. There may be alternatives to getting a real bird for the cage, like a really beautiful decoritive one. Or if you are interested in birds, you can get beautiful small indoor (and outdoor) aviaries that look like pieces of furniture. Like these ones:

(You can even build one yourself with an old cupboard)

Good luck! :)

I am looking to subscribe to bird keeping by sheehawkins but cant find it?

I am a bird keeping hobbyist looking for an informative weekly or monthly magazine to subscribe too and I have been told that this is a good magazine. I am told that it is full of information on all relavent issues in the keeping of cage and aviary bird.

Bird Keeping magazine is a wonderful magazine! It is from Britain. They do have a office in the US. So you can get it here. There is also another great magazine from Australia. It is called Australian Bird Keeper. Check with later I will try and find the addresses of both the magazine for you….

Another great magazine is the Pet Bird report. You might find this one interesting as well.
What kind of birds do you have?

How do i stop my cat from attacking my birds cage?

My mom has 2 birds and a new cat. The cat naturally goes to the bird cages and attacks them. I want her to keep the kitty cuz its only 5 months old and soo cute and nice and sweet but she likes the birds and the cat and would get rid of hte cat if anything. HELP!

Spray some water to the cat every time it attacks the cage until the cat stops.

How to go about cleaning a bird cage?

It was outside for a while and I already hosed it down and let it dry on the patio. The dishes are nasty and the toys that were left inside were extremely rusty. How should I disinfect this cage? I want to use it when I get my second bird to tame him separately.

What is a safe way to clean it without dangerous cleaning liquids?
I can’t save the dishes. The cage was left in the last owner’s backyard for a few weeks and the sun ruined the plastic.

Do not keep the dishes or the toys. The rust and dirt can cause the bird to get sick if digested. Simple soap and water can work wonders to get rid of rust and dirt on the cage, I use it all the time. Just make sure to thoroughly rinse it off. Buy all new toys, dishes and perches, and your new bird should be very happy. (If the paint is peeling off, or if the rust is too bad on the cage, I strongly suggest buying a new cage. Birds like chewing on things, including cage bars, so he/she might eat some of the paint/rust. Which, as mentioned above, can cause serious illness to the bird.)
