what can i do about roaches in my bird cage?

I have 5-6 roaches in my bird cage nightly i have tried catnip,bay leaves,traps,moving cage,my room and cage are kept clean,and i have tried putting tape on the bottom of the cage.I also have tried a little nightlight and i cant use borax because i have a mouse and cats and if they eat if it is deadly.Please do not say get rid of the birds

What can i do?

give the cage a mega clean, then mix a solution of tea tree oil and water (3 drops of tea trea oil to 1 1/2 cups water) and put it in a spray bottle. this should help get rid of the roaches if you spray the newspaper, (do not spray near seed or water) everday. this also kills mites/lice/ etc…don’t spray on birds, in eyes, etc.

What is the safest cleanser to use on a bird cage?

My friend’s bird died and she gave me the cage because she knew i was thinking about getting a bird. What is the safest option for cleaning the cage? I have 409, Windex, Clorox, and Lysol Disinfecting Wipes. Are any of these safe? If not, what should I use?

The best thing for disinfecting a cage is a dilute solution of bleach(household) wash down leave standing for 10 minutes then wash again leave 10 minutes then rinse thoroughly,this can also apply to perches ,

Or a solution of Milton.

But I always think it is better to buy new perches.

Leave for 24 hours before putting in your bird.

Anyone know where i could find a hanging bird cage?

I’m looking for a hanging bird cage, that i can keep two parakeets in. All the hanging ones i’m seeming to find are just for decoration. :/ Any help?
I want a round type one though, and i can’t find those anywhere either. Thanks for the tips tho!

If you want a hanging yet practical cage, just buy a regular "lightweight" cage at petco or petsmart. You loop metal twine through the top of the cage so you can hang it that way. Hope this helps. Just make sure you use enough twine so the cage won’t fall down.

Can a dirty bird cage cause lung damage to humans?

A few weeks ago I visited my sister. She lives 1000 miles away. When I went into her house, the smell was horrible. Aside from the fact that the whole house was just filthy, she had a bird whose cage hadn’t been cleaned in who knows how long. I had no where else to go (lack of money) and had to stay there that night. Left as soon as I woke and didn’t/won’t return. Since then, my asthma has been out of control. Can the smell (dirty bird cage) cause permanent damage to my lungs?

did you clean the bird cage? it is possible to get some unusual (and rare) infections from bird feces (psittacosis, histoplasma, cryptococcus), but only if you came into contact and inhaled the poop. Otherwise, it was probably just all the dust and general filth in your sister’s house that flared up your asthma.
